When Vicki La Plant saw a collection of pink and beige pearls, she wanted to know how to make them into a necklace, something beautiful and one of a kind. She sought out Georgeann Hurt, a Chickasaw bead worker, and took four lessons in beading. Then, using the pink and beige cultured pearls, and a freeform freshwater keishi pearl for the center, she created her first piece of jewelry.
There’s a great story behind the grand prize in a fundraiser to benefit the Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma. Gerald Knox bought a rare 2003 Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Road King motorcycle. He kept it preserved as a collectible with just 18 miles on the odometer. When Knox decided this summer to relocate out of the area he donated the bike to the Guidance Center to raffle for charity.
The creativity in Janet Karam’s paintings is undeniable. Her contemporary, colorful takes on saxophones, jazz musicians, buildings, blues singers and ballerinas vibrate with life. “I think I had a spark from a young age,” Karam said about her creative streak. “It was lying dormant, but my mother helped light it, and now in my older years she nurtures it.”
Slaid Cleaves is often referred to as a “songwriter’s songwriter,” which is code for the fact that his voice isn’t exactly melodious.
Chuck Allen Floyd has been on the road for what he says seems like forever, crisscrossing Texas and Oklahoma promoting “Livin’ Like a Rock Star (in a Honky Tonk Band)” the first single from his debut full-length album.

Jonathan Dryden’s hands create beautiful pieces of art from wood, but a childhood accident almost took away that gift. At thirteen-months old, he burned his hands so severely that he was not expected to have full use of them again. To everyone’s surprise, after three weeks in bandages, his hands slowly came back to life.
I am disappointed that you limit your coverage to a small area. You have a very fine magazine that needs more exposure. I am a member of the Creative Arts Center in Bonham and have done several lectures there, at the Paris, Texas Art League, Greenville Art League, and others.

The timer goes off with a “ding,” and the first batch of caramel rolls emerges from the oven, and the kitchen fills with the delicious aroma of cinnamon. A pair of bakers flips the sheet pan upside down on a board, and warm caramel oozes down the sides of the rolls and glistens on the top.
