Recognition for Mr. Haddock

Like Chip Piazaa, I also had Mr. Phill Haddock as a teacher at Denison High School. (“Chip Off the Old Block,” Jan-Feb 2010). It is easy to forget how important an influence teachers can be in our future lives. Today’s society has largely become disrespectful of the teaching profession— mostly without reason. We pass along that disrespect to our children, who then act in a way that our own parents would have never tolerated. Mr. Haddock was a good man who taught me how to start and complete a project. He also taught me to respect authority and adults in general. That was a good thing. Respect is part of developing solid relationships with people. As a society we need to get our children back on track.
