Solitary squares cut out of the pavement one by one have prompted rumors that TXDOT was frittering away stimulus money by repairing twelve foot sections of highway one at a time, or even that the soil under the Grayson County roadbed was unusually unsupportive and was being studied by scientists. A grain of truth sprouts most rumors, but this time the collective wisdom is way off the mark.

Remembering Old Friends

I heard from an old friend recently. Herb Feemster is better known as Herb Fame, half of the Grammy Award winning singing duo, Peaches & Herb. The duo’s iconic love song, “Reunited,” reached the number one spot in April 1979 and remains one of radio’s Top 25 Most Played Love Songs of the past three decades.

Black Texomans Honored

Walter E. Potts was born in Denison in 1892 and lived to be 105 years old. The son of William and Mollie Potts distinguished himself in World War I serving as one of thousands of “Buffalo Soldiers” assigned to the U.S. Army’s 92nd and 93rd Infantry Divisions. The 92nd was attached to France’s 4th Army.
