The Denison Arts Council has announced that the Texas Commission on the Arts has designated Denison as one of the first official State of Texas Cultural Districts. Denison and six other communities statewide are the first to be recognized with the designation.

Quilts
Quilting reaches back before recorded history. Quilts were made in the shadows of the Pyramids. In America, though quilts are often associated with Colonial times, they were actually rather rare. Early American homemakers had their hands full with spinning, weaving, and sewing and had little time for quilting.
Dr. Light Cummins: Texas State Historian
“[The state of Texas history] is strong, and it’s changing,” said Cummins. “Texas has changed a lot in the last thirty or forty years. Texas history, as an enterprise, is being revitalized, and the state has put a tremendous amount of monetary resources into advocating the study of Texas history. Right now, for example, the Texas State Archives are being remodeled with a multimillion dollar renovation.”
My Best Christmas
Right after my eighth birthday in January, I began to long secretly for a bicycle. I watched with envy as the older kids whizzed about the neighborhood on their brightly colored beauties, with names emblazoned on the fork—Schwinn, Roadmaster, Raleigh. They were like thoroughbred horses, sleek and fast and beautiful.
