Tamale Man: Nabor Quiroz
Nabor Quiroz is a celebrity in the world of handmade homemade tamales. His wife and daughters are in charge of production and he is the company’s primary distribution channel. Known also as “Tamale Man,” Quiroz has been peddling tamales in Texoma from the back of his SUV for more than a decade. Now the family is opening a permanent business in Van Alstyneat the site of the Elmont Farmers Market.
In a story we did on Christmas Tamales in the Nov/Dec 2008 issue we listed him along with Lupe’s Tamales in Sherman, as a place to get holiday tamales. Quiroz says with all due respect, “Please do not confuse me with Lupe’s. They are very different from my family’s homemade tamales. Hacemos el mejor tamales.”
Quiroz still makes the rounds from Whitesboro to Bonham and everywhere in between. He typically sells as many as 80 dozen daily. They come in pork, beef, chicken, cheese, and poblano pepper. His prices are slightly less than competitiors and he says “Mi tamales de peso más que otros proveedores.”
You might be able to catch Tamale Man Nabor Quiroz delivering in your area, but to order and have your tamales delivered directly to your home or office call (903) 744-0565. The stand is open at Elmont Farmers Market, FM 121 West and Elmont Road in Van Alstyne.

Betty Nash
By admin
People are taking notice of Betty Nash’s art. Her works, done in oil, are graceful, subtle manipulations of light and shadows, of deep colors and reflections. She uses the chiaroscuro style (the play of light and shadow) embraced by masters such as Rembrandt and Raphael.

Yard & Garden
If you’re going to garden organically around here, you’ve got to be tough—at least as tough as my friend Nancy, who confesses that the greatest pleasure of her summertime morning is to roam her dewy garden, waking up sleepy grasshoppers and flicking their heads off with her thumbnail.

Urban Sherman Alive and Well
But the Hot Summer Nights events, like others in Texoma, remind us that we are part of a society. I for one am proud to be part of a community that celebrates itself with awesome programs like this. If you haven’t been, come down and take a look, grab a hot dog, and join in the fun. Its bound to be better than Thursday night TV. But even if its not, just TiVo it!

We also have wondered what happened to Nabor. At one time he was working on a bricks and mortar cafe in Sherman, but that’s the last we heard.
Where is he now? Have not been able to get an answer at that phone number.
