Ashburn’s Ice Cream
From Ashburn’s Ice Cream’s beginnings in 1907 until well after World War II, almost all ice cream was local and made in small batches to satisfy one day’s worth of customers. Its local flavor meant that local tastes became accustomed to unique offerings, not the uniformed sameness of mass-produced ice cream.

Palio’s Pizza Café
Alan and Sheila Hardin left Grayson County when Alan’s job evaporated. Now the pair is back in town. This time as owners of Palio’s Pizza Café, which opened in July at Sherman Town Center. Back in the eighties Alan worked for T.A. Reynolds, a hotel management company in Sherman.

Thoroughbreds of the Sky

The word “thoroughbred” conjures up images of beautiful, sleek horses sprinting around a track before a crowd of thousands in the Kentucky Derby or the preakness. But there is another kind of thoroughbred, racing pigeons, who speed through the sky in famous international races such as the Mallee Classic and the South African Sun City Million Dollar Race, the premier race for the thoroughbreds of the sky.
