Gail’s Gorgeous Gardens
An early morning breeze bears the summer sweetness of roses. Your eyes catch the splendor of moonflower just closing, and hummingbirds dart from bloom to bloom on the trumpet vine. A barn rooster’s crow breaks the silence. Dew shines on the rose petals, and the cattle begin to stir.
Stormy Weather
Every region of the country seems to take a perverse pride in its own brand of nasty weather. “If you don’t like the weather in (Texas, Georgia, Maine, Wyoming—you fill in the blank) just come back tomorrow.” People love to boast of their triumph over adversity. “Why, it was so cold, the firemen just turned on the hose and then shinnied down the icicle that was formed.” It also is axiomatic that however bad it is now, it was worse back when. “Hot? Why back in the summer of (insert preferred year here), it was so hot that folks were baking cakes on the screened-in porch.”
Air Traffic Control
The Federal Aviation Administration expects to hire more than 12,000 new Air Traffic Controllers over the next decade and that means business for Grayson County’s North Texas Regional Airport. Mike Shahan, the airport director, says the rarely used control tower will be very active again beginning this summer. It’s part of a deal with L-3 Communications to train new controllers.
