Most stories written in Texoma Living! are assigned by our editor to one of the freelance writers with whom we work. We are always looking to add new writers to our team.

TEXOMA STORIES
This is our editorial mission and our requirement when it comes to submitting an article.
A story about a new business is not nearly as interesting as a story about the people behind the business. What is their "backstory"? What were the struggles to getting the doors open and what is so unusual about that story that makes it worthy of reading?
Any story that can't be told in 1200 to 1500 words (or less) probably does not have the necessary substance.
Texomans with interesting jobs, surprising past lives, and relevance to the community are always possible subjects.

How We Pay Our Freelance Writers
Any article assigned to a freelance writer is eligible for compensation based on the number of words written. Articles must be in accepgtable form, minimum rewrites or editing required by us and then ultimately published. If it is necessary to extensively rewrite an assigned story based on information and interviews gathered by the writer, we will pay a reportage/research fee of $75. If we cannot in our judgement use the article, we have the right to not publish and to pay you a "kill fee" of $25.
FEES: Items under 500 words $75; 501-799 words $100; 800-1,200+ $150. We may also pay an additional fee for larger articles at our discretion. If you live in Sherman, Denison or Pottsboro and your assignment requires you to travel outside of those city limits we will pay an additional flat $25 fee.
PAYMENT: Payment is by check sent by the 15th of the month following the actual distribution date (usually the third of a month). We must have a complete and current IRS W9 form in our files before we can pay you. You may obtain this form and instructions by sending a request to our accounting department debbie@texomaliving.com

Photography Submission and Assignments
Texoma Living! is known for its spectacular photography. We have been blessed with a team of creative and talented photographers who understand the value of telling a story with pictures. If you would like to be considered as one of our freelance photographers eligible for assignments, please send a link to your online gallery to: editor@texomaliving.com or send 2-3 examples in your email. We pay a flat fee of $75 per shoot plus a fee of $25 per additional location on the same day. A flat fee of $25 for travel outside of Sherman-Denison or Pottsboro is also paid when appropriate. Payment is based on the same rules as for freelance writers outlined above including kill fee.
