It’s rare that you can get two of the biggest promoters of all time in the same room, but there they were: boxing legend Don King, and the women behind the Crisis Center. The Crisis Center serves the victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Grayson, Fannin and Cooke counties. Kelly Hiser invited King and two of his friends, sports promoter, Norm Lyons, and former Dallas Cowboy, Everson Walls, to spend a day helping put the spotlight even brighter on the Crisis Center and its work. The ladies behind the Crisis Center—scores of them— have put a lot of energy into making sure this refuge for women and children stays financially strong. Events like the Seeds of Hope luncheon and fundraiser (page 24) this past March assure the center’s future. Center director, Kathy Crenshaw, knows what woman-power can accomplish. “We started out with people answering a hotline and now we serve over 800 victims and children each year.”
