Country Singer Chuck Allen Floyd Never Wrote a Song About His Momma

Chuck Allen Floyd has been on the road for what he says seems like forever, crisscrossing Texas and Oklahoma promoting “Livin’ Like a Rock Star (in a Honky Tonk Band)” the first single from his debut full-length album.

The Oklahoma-born Floyd is already a successful songwriter and would like to add hit singer to his resumé. He has written dozens of songs; some have reached serious chart status. Yet, none are about his mom, Carol Floyd, Sherman resident and Gunter teacher.

Why do so many country singers sing about mom? “At the end of the day, your mom is the only one who will be there for you,” says Chuck Allen. “My mom is my biggest fan. If I’m doing well, she says, ‘Well, people are finally taking notice of your talent,’ or if things aren’t so rosy, she’ll say, ‘these people don’t know good from bad.’” When we talked to Floyd he was on the road between Waco and Corsicana.

“I’ve put in  over a thousand miles in the past three days, doing gigs and visiting radio stations trying to keep the DJs interested in my song.” In the passenger seat is his dad, Perry, his tour and business manager. If he makes it really big, Floyd may hire on other family members. Brother, Steven Floyd, is a CPA and uncle, Gary Parker, is an investment consultant in Sherman.
